Dimensionality

Depicted is a virtual section of the retina, showing the support cells of the eye called glia cells, which have undergone 3D data processing. This is a combination of the same image in four different styles. Using different colour-combinations, we can start to see detail that was not visible previously.

Technique: The image was acquired with the Zeiss LSM 900 AiryScan microscope, using a 40x water-immersion LD C-Apochromat (NA 1.1) objective. Processing was conducted using Fiji. Following image rotation in 3D, depth-coding and false-colouration was applied. Finally, data were stitched together to produce a combination of the four individually produced images.
