This image depicts a digital section through the eye of a 2.5-day old zebrafish. What you see is a snapshot of how developing support cells (red) move towards blood vessels (white), with which they will ultimately connect to supply the eye with nutrients and energy, as well as removing any debris.
Technique: The image was acquired with the Zeiss LSM 900 AiryScan microscope, using a 40x water-immersion LD C-Apochromat (NA 1.1) objective. 3D data were converted to 2D maximum intensity projections and false-colour coding applied. Data were rotated and cropped to achieve the presented composition and perspective.
